UA - User Agent.
UHF - see Ultra High Frequency.
Ultra High Frequency (UHF) - This frequency spectrum portion
is used for TV and cellular transmissions and is between 300 MHz
and 3 GHz in frequency. (See VHF.)
Ultra Hi-Res - This stands for Ultra High Resolution and
refers to monitors that have a resolution of 1024 x 768 or better.
Ultraviolet - This is the portion of the electromagnetic
spectrum with wavelengths between 4 and 3-400 nanometers (these
are shorter wavelengths than with the visible light portion of the
electromagnetic spectrum).
Un-Archive (Un-Arc) - To remove files from an archive.
Unattended - This term describes telecom devices that
don't need a human operator.
Underline Character - The character "_" under another
character, such as this.
Underscore Character - The character "_" between other
characters, such_as_these, usually representing spaces.
Unicast - The communication of one device to one other
device only. (See Broadcast and Mulitcast).
Unicode - The 16-bit system for encoding the characters
and letters of the world's languages.
Uplink - This is the earth station that is used to transmit
signals to a satellite.
Upload - To transmit data from your computer to another
computer (over a network).
Uppercase - Capital letters, such as THESE.
UPS - This stands for uninterruptible power supply and
is just what it sounds like.
Uptime - This is the duration of a network's uninterrupted
work time.
User Level - A user's level of security or privileges.
User Name (Number) - The login name (number) you use to
access a system (usually accompanied by a password).
