Satellite Dish Installation
On this page, we're just going to run through some of the basics
of proper satellite dish installation.
One of the first things you'll want to do during satellite
installation is to completely survey the site where the
satellite is to sit. If you're installing a smaller DBS dish (18"
in diameter), then you'll probably just be putting the dish on your
roof. But if you're going to install a C-band satellite dish, then
chances are it will sit on the ground. In either case, a future
location for a satellite dish installation must have the following
questions asked about it.
- Will the dish have a clear, unobstructed view of the satellites
in orbit? (Don't forget about seasonal foliage.)
- Is there a solid base for the satellite dish installation?
- Are there any sources of earth-based interference?
Before the satellite dish installation even begins, you
need to make sure that your satellite dish is perfectly shaped.
By measuring across the diameter in three different places, you
can verify its perfect shape if you get identical measurements.
Be sure that you keep the dish at its best shape during assembly.
If you over tighten the dish mounting hardware then you could deform
your dish.
As a final point regarding satellite dish installation, be sure
you position your feedhorn correctly. If you miss the dish's focal
point by even 1/2" then you could experience a 50% signal loss!
