Dish Network Satellite Dishes
You should consider a Dish Network satellite dish as simply
a different type of television antenna; the main difference between
satellite dishes and regular TV antennas is that Dish Network satellite
dishes pick up broadcast signals that have been transmitted from
a satellite in space. These satellite antennas are parabolic in
shape (meaning they resemble a large bowl) so that the DishNetwork
satellite signals can be focused into a beam at the focal point
of the parabola.
This parabolic shape with its respective focal point is important
because the radio signals coming towards Earth from the satellite
in space (which is most likely positioned in the Clarke orbit) are
weaker than they need to be for the satellite receiver to work properly.
As the signal is focused by the parabolic dish it is strengthened
appropriately.
Also, once the signal has entered the Dish Network satellite
dish system through the feedhorn, which is located at the
DishNetwork dish's focal point, it passes through the LNB, wherein
it is amplified and filtered (to remove the noise in the signal).
(Note: noise is defined as any undesired interference in the
signal.)
Be sure when installing your Dish Network satellite dish that
you have an unobstructed view pointing towards the south. Major
obstacles (such as buildings or trees) that fall between your Dish
Network satellite dish and the Dish Network satellite in space will
introduce noise into your received signal.
These days, Dish Network satellite dishes come with either one
or multiple feedhorns. This is to accommodate when viewers in one
household want to watch different channels. It is necessary to have
more than one feedhorn because each of the signals has to be extracted
in real time from the lump of signals received by the Dish Network
satellite dish.
