Directway is satellite DSL service from Direct TV!
If you're in the market for satellite internet, then we recommend
that you look into Directway internet service, which is offered
by Hughes Network Systems, owners of DirecTV.
With this service, you'll be able to access the internet with
a small 2' x 3' elliptical satellite dish that can easily be anchored
to your roof, the side of your house, a window eave, or the ground.
With Directway satellite internet, you're able to both download
from and upload to the internet at speeds much faster than the dial-up
service you're probably using right now.
Why would people use Directway satellite internet service?
Many people in the United States cannot access the internet with
a cable or DSL modem because they live in rural areas. The
cable companies don't run lines out into the country, and many rural
houses are too far away from the telephone company's central office
for DSL to work. Luckily, satellite service from Directway
can operate from anywhere in the US.
RV users can also use satellite internet service on their travels.
(They can also use satellite TV service from either Direct TV or
the Dish Network.)
What you'll need to use Directway
If you want to start accessing the internet with Directway service,
you'll need to invest in the following satellite equipment, which
can be bought from either of the two vendors we recommend at the
top of this page.
- A 2 x 3 ft. elliptical satellite antenna
- Both an uplink and a downlink modem
- Coaxial cables to hook it all together
The only other requirement you must consider before you become
a Directway customer is whether you have a clear view to the South
(there must be a completely unobstructed view). The satellite
in orbit that your personal equipment will communicate with is positioned
over the equator in the Clarke orbit (a.k.a. the geostationary orbit).
If you're ready to learn more about the Directway system from
Hughes Network Systems, visit either of the retailers listed in
the blue box at the top of this page.
Where to get DSL service
If you don't live in the countryside, and you can get DSL access,
we recommend you visit our
DSL internet service providers page. DSL is cheaper than
satellite internet and is a better choice if you can get it.
